My Washer won’t drain. What’s the problem?
The problem is most likely in the drain hose or the pump. If it’s filling up with water it means that the motor is working correctly. If it spins or runs through a cycle, then the belt is OK. Since the washer fills and spins, the problem could be the drain hose. Check to make sure that the hose isn’t crimped or kinked. Lift the washer lid and examine the tab that rests under the lid because this tab connects to a switch on the washer. If it is broken, the washer will turn off and won’t drain properly. If the tab is broken, you can try to fix it yourself, however, you may find that it is best to have a professional fix it for you. If the problem isn’t in the lid switch or the drain hose, then the issue could be that the water pump is broken.
What do I have to do with a drain that keeps clogging?
A clogged drain can be a headache. Usually, a plunger does the job or a liquid drain cleaner may do the trick. However, a clog can be more involved and extensive. If you continue to plunge a clogged drain and use a drain cleaner with no success, you may actually cause damage to your pipes. If you don’t know the source of the problem then you are not likely to find a solution. A drain may be clogged for various reasons but a common problem is that something dropped into the drain. If it’s the toilet that is clogged then it may be because something was flushed down and is now lodged in the drain. If this is the case, please call a plumber.
Why does my shower head keep leaking even with the faucets turned off?
Most times it will be that the washer that needs to be replaced but there could be other reasons for a leaky showerhead. The pipe connecting to the head may be the cause of the leak or the holes in the showerhead are clogged. Unscrew the showerhead and remove it from the shower. Remove the face of the showerhead and change the washer. Once you have done that then reassemble and screw back the showerhead. If the showerhead is still clogged then remove the faceplate and soak the showerhead in vinegar for 12 hours. The vinegar will dissolve the mineral deposits that are causing the clog. After it has been soaked any remaining deposits can be removed by brushing out the showerhead plate. If the showerhead still leaks, it’s time to call the plumber.
Why does my hot water heater run out of hot water quickly?
Did you know that the temperature settings on water heaters can be adjusted. There are many different sizes of water heaters and each size will heat water at a different rate of speed. If you need more hot water, the simplest way is to increase the temperature setting on your water heater. Another reason is that hot water heater isn’t large enough for your needs. If you buy the right size hot water heater you have more of a guarantee that you will have plenty of hot water when it’s necessary. Discuss this with your plumber.
My toilet barely flushes…. What’s wrong?
The most common cause is probably a clog. First, try plunging the toilet. If you don’t see a significant change after plunging it may need to be snaked and you should call an experienced plumber because there could be a problem in the pipes.
Why does my toilet keep leaking from the base?
Is the toilet bowl is leaking or is it sweating? Your first step will be to determine the source of the problem. The quickest, cheapest and easiest way to find out is to add some food coloring to the toilet bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes and then flush. If you have a leak, the colored water will leak from the base. If you do have a leak the toilet will need to be removed and the wax ring replaced. It’s best to hire an experienced plumber to replace the
wax ring especially since the toilet will need to be removed in order to
replace it. You may want to check and see if the tank is leaking into the bowl. You can test this by using food coloring as well. Just add a few drops of food coloring to the toilet tank, and wait several hours. If you see colored water when you check the toilet bowl you’ll know the tank is leaking. Call an experienced plumber to fix this problem.
Why does my shower lose hot water when someone else runs hot water in the house?
The problem may be that your main water pipes are too small and new pipes might need to be installed. Or, there could be sediment buildup or corrosion at the opening of the water heater hot water valve. Sediment or corrosion could cause fluctuations in the water temperature. Call an experienced plumber to asses the situation since solutions could include replacement of corroded pipes, checking the water heater or replacing the shower system with one that is pressure balanced.
Why does my shower drain slowly?
If your shower is draining slowly it’s almost a guarantee that you have clogged pipes. Although most people will choose a chemical clog remover to clean the drain, it’s a very controversial method. Some say that these products are harmful to pipes; others say just the opposite. If there is a serious problem then chemical drain cleaners will be of little effect. Most plumbers agree that chemical cleaners are rarely effective and are used too frequently by consumers. Plunging the shower drain might solve the problem. If your shower is draining slowly and you have not been able to correct the situation, it’s time to call a plumber.
